Parents of children with disabilities face unique challenges and stressors, yet they share the same hopes, dreams, and goals for their children as any other parents. They often incur higher healthcare costs, which can increase the risk of falling into poverty. Conversely, financial hardship can raise the likelihood of disability, creating a harmful cycle between disability and poverty that must be addressed.

Caregivers are provided with psychosocial support by AKI through interactive meetings, where families are reassured that they are not alone. These gatherings also offer children a chance to have memorable and enjoyable experiences.

Our social fund is dedicated to helping families access our services, ensuring that children receive the support they need to prevent further disability.

More than half 54% of the families we serve at AKI are food insecure*

At AKI, we extend support to families of children with disabilities by having:

Regular meet-ups between grandmothers and mothers are held to give emotional support to each other.

  • A monthly birthday party where every child has the chance to celebrate and be with friends and family.
  • An annual family event on World Cerebral Palsy Day – magicians and candy floss are particularly popular among children and parents alike. Siblings are particularly encouraged to attend our celebratory events.
